Kraamzorg
Net geboren baby

Kraamzorg is a unique Dutch maternity care system that offers not only the emotional support often associated with doulas, but also professional postpartum care, practical guidance, and health monitoring for both mother and baby.

Depending on the situation, kraamzorg may include support during childbirth (partusassistentie) as well as postpartum home care and guidance during the first days after birth.

What Does Kraamzorg Include?

・Health monitoring and record keeping for both mother and baby, including vital sign checks

・Observation and early recognition of concerns, with collaboration with midwives when needed

・Support with baby bathing and daily baby care

・Breastfeeding support

・Guidance and advice on newborn care

・Support for older children

・Relaxation massage

My care prioritizes the physical and emotional well-being of both mother and baby.

When possible, I may also offer simple meal preparation and light practical support at home.

Duration of Care

Kraamzorg is usually provided for 49 hours over a period of 8 days, starting from the day of birth.

Depending on the family’s situation and the official care indication, the number of hours may be adjusted. In some cases, care can be extended up to a maximum of 80 hours over 10 days.

Insurance

Kraamzorg is covered by Dutch basic health insurance.

In 2026, the legally required personal contribution for kraamzorg at home is €5.70 per hour. Depending on your insurance policy and additional coverage, this contribution may be partially or fully reimbursed.

As Bureau MIHO works as an independent kraamzorg provider without direct contracts with insurance companies, reimbursement rates may vary depending on your insurance policy. In many cases, approximately 70–100% of the costs are reimbursed.

Please contact your insurance company directly for detailed information about your coverage.
